Chapter 4 Doom Intro Script

PC: Well, that was easy enough. Four up, four down.

PC: Wha... what's going on?

Screen fades in and out with a green glow, until finally all of the graphics are dark.

PC: What the... what happened?

PC: Whoever you are... I can hear you. Show yourself!

Mystery Voice: You presume to throw about demands while you are helpless? How amusing....

PC: This is your last warning: show yourself immediately!

Mystery Voice: Very well.

Graphics fade back in, showing that the hero is now facing Doctor Doom. Stats: Str 5, Int 8, Fit 3, Nrg 5
Battle sequence begins. Text reads: A forcefield surrounds the area as {heroname} faces a majestic, armored figure!

Chapter 4 Exiles Intro Script

Normal hero defeated animation. Screen fades to complete black, except for top third of screen (so the conversation picture and text box can still be seen).

PC: Wh... what happened? Doom? Where am I?

As the hero regains consciousness, the screen slowly fades in with an image of a dimly-lit, stone castle corridor.

Nocturne: Oh, hey... you're awake! Great, maybe now we can get started. Hey, everybody, our guest is awake!

Blink: Good. Hi there... we're the Exiles. We're here to help stop a real tragedy on this world, and we need your help.

PC: What? Who... who are you people? Doom... I was just... where am I? Where's Doom?

Doom: Ah. The mutant awakens. Good.

PC: DOOM! Fine, then, let's go! You won't be so lucky a second time....

Doom: Restrain yourself, mutant! We are not here to battle. You, like these 'Exiles', are a guest of Doom and under my royal protection.

Mimic: Look, I know this all looks crazy, but we're all the good guys here. Even Doom, for now. Please trust me when I say we need your help.

PC: My help? Good guys?!? That's DOCTOR DOOM over there, you know... who ambushed me and kidnapped me! Now that I've recovered, though....

Doom: ...sigh... That was a Doombot, not the true Doom. And for its miswired actions, you have my apologies. However, do not presume to threaten me... or I shall show you the power of the true monarch of Latveria!

Sunfire: Look, much as I hate to admit it, Doom's telling the truth. The Doombot was only supposed to ask for your help, not attack you... doesn't mean you should trust him, though....

PC: All right, fine. I don't understand any of this. Could someone please just tell me what's going on, and why I'm here?

Blink: Maybe we should start with introductions....

Fade out the castle corridor and conversation boxes, fade in the team selection screen. Of the seven member selection buttons, the first four fill with Blink, Mimic, Morph, and Nocturne, while the fifth one is filled with the character who was kidnapped by Doom. Since there are only five characters to pick from the team of five is predetermined - this is just used to inform the player of the Exiles' stats and powers. After the player selects their team, they see a "These are..." Exiles team pin-up, and then they move to the next set of scripts.

Blink: Now that the pleasantries are out of the way... let's get to business.

Blink: As we said, the Exiles are sent from one dimension to another to stop events that threaten the flow of time.

Sunfire: This one's not as messed up as some of the worlds we've been to... not too long ago we were on an Earth ruled by Skrulls!

Blink: Right. This world seems fairly ordinary... except for all the missing mutants.

PC: The missing mutants? Is that what this is about? Do you know what happened?

Morph: Nah, that's just your weirdass reality. We don't know anything about it, but it's not why we're here.

Morph: Funny... coulda sworn I'd already said that....

Blink: Morph's right. According to the Tallus (that's where we get our information), your team was the only team of mutant heroes left on the planet.

Sasquatch: That's why we asked Doom to help us get in touch with you. Didn't realize that he'd be attacking you....

Doom: As I said before, Doctor Hudson, that was a regrettable mishap.

PC: Regrettable... right. So why did you need me... and why do WE need Doom?

Blink: The Tallus said that we'd need both you AND Doom... well, it said we'd need a mutant hero, preferably one who'd faced it before.

Doom: I have studied the threat, mutant, and it is indeed dire. We must put aside our animosity for the greater good... this time.

PC: All right... all right, I'll listen. I trust you, Blink... if not him. What, exactly, are we up against?

Blink: This is our opponent... two of your comrades, Captain Britain and Psylocke, fought it long ago. It's called the Fury.

A green monitor lowers from the ceiling, with a staticky picture of a giant purple nightmare: The Fury.

Silence.

Sasquatch: It comes from a twisted, demented world... from which it's the sole survivor. It was created to eliminate all of the metahumans on its earth. It possesses awesome power and adaptive abilities.

Mimic: It followed Captain Britain to this world, where it renewed its quest to kill all the metahumans. It murdered many, human and hero alike, before an alien named Zeitgeist found a way to temporarily stop it.

Blink: Then the heroes made a tragic mistake. They buried it under Braddock Manor, deep in the bowels of the Earth, hoping they'd heard the end of it.

Morph: While it was down there, the Fury found a really powerful mega-computer called Mastermind... apparently came from some higher dimension. It used it to heal itself.

Sasquatch: Captain Britain later found a way to defeat it for good... but it was too late. When the Fury merged with the Mastermind computer, the damage was already done.

Blink: The core of the Fury's programming was still within the Mastermind computer. Slowly it began to assert control. It took years to gain control, and years more to build a new body for itself... which it now has.

Silence, unless your PC is Captain Britain or Psylocke. Either of the two Braddocks will get the following, indented extra dialog here.

PC: Wait... wait, this makes no sense. You say the Fury and Mastermind merged? But I recently put an end to Mastermind... after he killed the Corps and Merlyn.

Doom: Braddock, you fool! Did you TRULY believe that one computer could slay an INFINITE number of otherworldly Captain Britain corpsmen, AND the omnipotent Merlyn?!?

PC: Well... yes, it does seem a bit beyond Mastermind's power level, now that you mention it... he IS just a computer while the Corps are infinite and Merlyn is omnipotent... but I was there! I saw it!

Doom: What you saw, Braddock, was a hallucination. You and your sibling played out a purely mental drama, engineered by the Fury and Mastermind to convince you to leave them alone until they were ready for you!

PC: You mean... it wasn't real? The Corps and Merlyn live? I didn't become Lord of the Otherworld?

Blink: Yes, now you understand. The Fury wanted the Braddocks out of the way, and since the illusion convinced you that Mastermind was destroyed, there was no way for you to learn what was going on in the catacombs.

PC: So this killing machine from another dimension is back, and now it wants to kill us? Well, what else is new? Why is this such a big deal?

Sunfire: It's a 'big deal' because this thing absorbed the power of an entire dimension, not to mention the supercomputer. We're talking Phoenix power levels here!

Mimic: Our initial efforts to contain the Fury within the Manor failed - it escaped, and who knows how many it's killed by now. But with it separated from Mastermind, there's a chance.

Blink: Doom's created a device that will produce a weakening feedback, if we can attach it to the Mastermind computer. We were all set to try it, when more danger points showed up on our scanners.

Doom: Apparently during the last few years, the Fury and Mastermind replicated twice... they sent two lifeforms out of the manor, where they've lain dormant until now.

Nocturne: Who's on the assault team?

Blink: Sunfire and Sasquatch stay here with Doom. Mariko keeps patrolling the skies while Heather keeps an eye on the local tyrant.

Sunfire: Awwww... the patrols around here are getting BORING. Cal and Morph can fly - why can't one of them stay?

Blink: Sorry, Sunfire - I get the feeling we'll need Cal's power in the field, and Morph is the best one to help us with Doom's technology. Any other questions?

The next PC line could be one of 13 different ones, based on who has joined the Exiles from the player's old team. These lines and the characters who speak them are indented below:

Cyclops: None at all, Blink. Good organization. I've never fought the Fury, but I'm with you all the way.

Beast: None from here, Blink. The bubbly Beast is yours to command.

White Queen: Yes... how do I let myself get tied up in these things? {sigh}... fine, then. Let's do this.

Wolverine: Nah, I get the picture. I'm in, fer as long as ya need me.

Nightcrawler: Yes, I have only one appropriate question before marching headlong into certain death. Nocturne... did the me in your world ever happen to mention what your mother's favorite flowers were?

U-Go Girl or Anarchist: Yeah, I've got one. Who's got the movie rights on this caper?

Storm: None from me. I shall help your group however I can.

Colossus: No, Clarice. I shall help however you need me.

Psylocke: No... I wish Brian were here... but I'll do whatever it takes to shut that thing down. For Tom.

Captain Britain: Yes, I do. Meggan. She's been missing like the other mutants... but Cerebro couldn't find her. Are the Fury and Mastermind behind her disappearance as well?

Banshee: Aye, I do. Seein' as how these threats 're technological, is it possible they kidnapped Forge? He went missing when the others did, but Cerebro couldn't find him.

Xorn or Dead Girl: No, I shall do whatever I can to help.

Anyone else: Guess not. I'll help however I can.

For most characters, that's the end of the intro script - the game proceeds into the location assignments from her. However, a few characters do get some extra scripting. Here they are:

If PC is Nightcrawler:
Nocturne: Heh. Let's talk on the plane, Nightcrawler!

If PC is Banshee:
Doom: I can assure you, Cassidy, that neither the Fury nor Mastermind have anything to do with Forge's disappearance.

Banshee: What's that? Now, how would ye be knowin' that, eh, Doom? What's it y'know?

Doom: There is no time, Cassidy. If we survive this experience, I shall tell you what I know. Such is the word of Doom.

If PC is Captain Britain:
Doom: I can assure you, Captain, that neither the Fury nor Mastermind have anything to do with Meggan's disapperance.

Captain Britain: WHAT? How do you know that? What do you know, Doom?

Doom: There is no time, Braddock. If you are still alive when the task is complete, I shall tell you what I know. You have the word of Doom.

If PC is U-Go Girl, Psylocke, Colossus, Thunderbird, or Xorn:
Doom: Blink... a word with you in private, if I may, before you depart?

Blink: Fine.... what is it, Doom? And I warn you, don't try anything, I can have Mimic in here so fast....

Doom: Blink, I must say this quickly so that one does not suspect what I know. Do not trust the one who has joined your team.
